My First Pottery Painting, Theme: Heart.

During my sabbatical last fall,

I finally tried pottery painting🎨 at my aunt’s cafe and workshop.

I casually picked one plate, two small bowls,

and a heart mug, then sanded them down.

I drew a sketch with a pencil on the smooth pottery.

The theme for my first pottery painting was “Heart” 💟 Love…

Carefully drawing the lines with blue paint.

I was satisfied that it wasn’t as wobbly as I thought it would be!

The center of the heart was filled with colorful

little dots of paint.

Oh, how pretty,,,

I was very pleased with myself 😊

My aunt, a pottery painting master, was drawing

a ‘picture’ on a whole different level from me, hehehe.

She kept advising me not to apply the paint too thickly

(At the time, her words didn’t really sink in).

On the back of the plate, I wrote

some lyrics from Baek Yerin’s <Bubbles&Mushrooms>,

which I was really into at the time 🔮

Since it’s a good song,

I’ll embed it so you can listen while reading the post later!

Pottery painting consumes more energy than I thought,,

First, one plate cleared ~

I look at the pristine white pieces waiting their turn.

Working on the heart mug!

It might be a cliché, but

I wanted to express overflowing love, hahaha.

I envisioned a design where love would spill from the mug…

(I already had a strong feeling it was going to be a fail midway through…🥲 but it’s okay).

Working on two sets of small bowls!

I just quickly transferred whatever inspiration came to mind.

Rather than overthinking and working cautiously,

I prefer to just do it! It’ll work out somehow! Who cares if it fails!

That’s just my personality,,,, 😌

The first one was lemon-themed,

Squeeze the Day !

The second one, I drew leaves

representing “Salad Days” – meaning youthful, inexperienced times!

Now these little ones will go into the hot kiln

and be fired at a very high temperature!

The results I received a few weeks later,

thump-thump…👀

Oh, but the colors were much more vibrant than I expected.

Where did the pastel colors I wanted go…?

They were really vivid and bright hehe.

I’ll just put meaning in having tried it for the first time,

and I think I can do better next time!

I’m actually using them quite well like this 🌝

They’re pretty cute (in my eyes… since my effort went into them…).

I even brew coffee in the heart mug,

These small bowls are the most useful.

I eat granola yogurt in them,

use them as side plates when eating ramen,

and since they’re not too big, I use them often.

Pottery painting was charming..👏🏻

I’ll definitely try it again when I visit my aunt’s place!
